Women in China

Married women in china are committing suicide more than men. It is mostly occur in the villages which are three times higher than cities. Women are leaving there families and live in alien family. Their marriage like business deals where the brides are like an object for sell. Mostly this arranged married is common there due their culture believes.
According to head of suicide prevention project, that over 70% of women commits suicide due to a result of conflicts between husbands and wives. The traditional values mean problems according to China foremost women’s magazine. The reason of committing suicide is trying to get the husband attention. In the Chinese society women are forced to abort their child if it is a baby girl. That result could cause in next decade that boys are more than girls, which lead young men to unable to find wives.
Xu Rong’s organization is trying to prevent suicides by teaching and giving support. For examples there programs are teaching base skills to face society and take control their lives. All these programs are helping women to determining the future for China’s women to gain their confidence. These projects are small, but other forces are also at work which are determining the future for China's women.

City life allows girls to take control of their lives and have a career
In the manufacturing hubs of the south-east coastal provinces, up to 70% of the millions of migrant workers are women, mostly in their teens and 20s.
Although many will return to the countryside to marry, the experience of being away from home can be life-changing.The move to the city is not without risk. Many young women have been sexually abused by their bosses, and working conditions are often abysmal. But there are advantages. Here, relationships are formed away from the prying eyes of parents and matchmakers, and young women experience a wider world far removed from the farms where they grew up.Perhaps most importantly, young women away from home - whether in the factories or at the training school in Beijing - are gaining in confidence.
They are discovering their own individual worth and their own potential.
As one trainee says: "Before I came here my mum told me it was better to marry well than study well.
"But after coming here I didn't think my aim should be to get myself a good husband. I'd do better fighting for a career of my own."
China: Women of the Country was broadcast on Tuesday, 20 June, 2006 at 2100 BST on BBC Two.

Cool Cities

This movie "Toward Sustainable Urban Development and Architecture Cool City" has an interesting subject about technology and the rise of CO2 in the air. CO2 has become major problems facing all countries, so they suggest creating a new cool city in the Gulf. This city looks great, and has many facilities. In this city they will try to reduce the percentage of CO2 to 60%. SDCJ (Sustainable Development Consortium of Japan) Japanese company which going to start the project in Middle East.
Masdar are planning to build cool cities in UAE. They are focus on reducing emission from these mean sources of CO2 emission, which are produced from building and transportation by 90%. This city is 1km in radius which contains business, residential, commercial, culture and resort zone. In addition to the solar powered plants farms. They are planning to use environmental technology such as water, wind and surrounding the city. The transportation will be focuses on light rail, solar ships, water transportation and hybrid cars. Echo towers would reduce the 50% and residents would reduce 30% of CO2 in the air.
Bradley Hope of National Newspaper mentions the average temperature rise up to 50C and the humidity 97%, because of that building cool city in the UAE it’s very helpful to reduce carbon emission. In addition, the new Abu Dhabi Central Market will have an operable roof that responds to the temperature (Bradley, 2008). Still, developers need to be wary of too many technological solutions, which can reduce the energy efficiency of a building, said Alan Paterson, Aldar’s head of planning. Air conditioning is inherently a wasteful way to cool a space, but cool water misters are not particularly efficient either, especially in a desert environment where water is scarce. (Bradley, 2008).
To conclude, I think building a cool city is a good solution to reduce the pollution in the earth. This city will cost a lot to build it and it consumes time and materials. I hope this city will be build soon to save our earth.

Carbon Footprint

The Definition of a carbon footprint is the total amount of green house gas produced to directly and indirectly support human activates like burning fossil fuels, which expressed in equivalent of tons of CO2 pumped into our atmosphere.

I started calculating in a site to measure my carbon footprint and how much am i producing CO2 that impacts the environment. Most of the questions were about four mean things food, travel, home and stuff.

I started to do survey with my classmates an average for us was about 2.79 (Footprint Calculator). Which means that we are using our planet like it is bigger than 2.79, which is equivalent about 32.8 tons of CO2 per person (Heroes of UAE). Saudi Arabia has about 10.2 tons, which is one third less than UAE (Breathingearth.net). UAE is one of the highest in world, maybe because it is one of the richest countries.
Reducing green house gases, saving energy, renewable energy sources, recycling, Energy Star light bulbs, carpooling, public transportation, carbon offsets, buying local, green economy; so many buzz words, so little time to make that change for our future. Work diligently at keeping my footprint to a minimum. Changing one’s habits are not easy, but I hope I’ve led you to at least think about the future, and what would happen if we don’t take action now.

Inconvenient Truth – Movie Review

I will like to write a review about the documentary video “An Inconvenient Truth” presented by AL Gore. It is a nice video about the Global Warming I highly recommended it to everyone. It talks about the causes and effects of Global Warming. What will be the result on our planet? In this report I am going to write about two writers and their point of view.

Roger Ebert enjoyed this video and facts on it. He mentioned about how the video explains the global warming and it is going to lead the destruction of our civilization and species in our planet. All these facts are showed in the movie. Global Warming is caused from burning of fossil fuels. Cores of polar ice show that carbon dioxide is much, much higher than ever before in a quarter of a million years (Roger Ebert). Typhoons and Hurricanes are started showed in some parts of the world. Glaciers in the North Pole started to melt down which increase the sea level. Ronald Bailey is strongly disagreeing about the movie. He is giving some evidence which justify him. Mountains of glaciers are melting around the world because of the changes in rainfall. It is maybe because the shift of the rainfall. On the other hand, AL Gore mentions that polar bears are going extinct. WWF report itself that bear population are either stable or increasing (Ronald Bailey). Somehow this documentary movie is a good one. Global warming is real. It is caused by human activity. Someday people will understand that. Bibliography: Ebert, Roger. "An Inconvenient Truth." An Inconvenient Truth

"An Inconvenient truth" is a documentary about the cause and effects of global warming on the world we live. I really feel that global warming is a crisis which not only affects the environment but also effect human beings and as Al Gore said, if there is no place to live there will be no money. If we really are concern about the next generation and how they will live. Global warming is the increase of the average temperature of the earth’s near-surface air and oceans mostly because of CO2 emissions.

The reason that this is important is because these C02 emissions are manmade, and we people can change them to stop the global warming. The things that contribute to global warming for examples are the bring fossil fuel in automobiles and factories for producing power which has high CO2 emissions and deforestation.

The effects that we have seen from the movie are that the ice caps are melting which will cause the sea level to rise up, which will affect many people living on the coasts because their homes and cities where they live could be flooded, there will be more natural disasters like hurricanes and tornadoes, and the world temperatures will increase causing problems for us people as well as the habitat that we live in, for example the crops we grow might not grow in the same places any more.

We should start using public transport or hybrid vehicles, we should reduce our electricity usage, we should also try to find alternative energy sources and lower our usage of fossil fuel. This movie makes. This is a world problem and everyone must help to lower CO2 emissions for the future of the planet. Together we will make a better future for us and our children.

Introduction to Global Warming

Everyone agrees that our planet is getting warmer. It has been shown that Earth’s average surface temperature is increasing. The greenhouse gases help to keep the planet within a habitable range. They are made of several components including water vapor, oxygen, carbon dioxide and other.
Carbon dioxide has shown increase in the atmosphere over the last century which leads to increase in temperature. This is mostly due to the burning of the fossil fuels such as coal, oil and natural gas. The burning of fossil fuels are mostly use in the industrial area and all kinds of transportation, such as cars, buses, train, and airplane. Cutting down the rainforest is another thing. Forests are responsible for absorbing much of the carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.
Some believe that global warming is simply a short term situation caused by natural processes the planet. On other hand, it may be shown that there is relationship a between increasing the planet temperature and carbon dioxide levels.
